Ringwood, Hampshire, England, BH24 3AP

A brewery with the best of all birth certificates—it was launched in 1978 by Peter Austin, the acknowledged “father of British microbrewing.” Enthusiastic local support ensured it outgrew its plant and premises, but it remains unarguably the tidiest, most efficient of operations. Marston’s acquired it in 2007, hopefully to develop its spirited potential further.
