St. Austell

The enterprising spirit that drove Walter Hicks to mortgage his farm for £1,500 in 1851 and set up a brewery remains at the core of today’s business. Many of his descendants are still involved in the company—in its estate of 168 pubs and in the brewery, which produces in excess of 40,000 barrels (6.5 million liters) annually.
