Skydio 2 for Bridge Inspection

Skydio Autonomy is the perfect tool for inspecting bridges. An AASHTO study of State Departments of Transportation found that drones can save 75% of the inspection cost and 90% of the social disruption cost caused by snooper trucks, which require large crews and extended lane closures. Factor in the fact that drone inspections are much safer for operators than snooper trucks, and it's not surprising that 70% of DOTs are developing drone programs. Manual drones struggle to examine under-bridge trusses up close because they lack trustowrthy obstacle avoidance, a strong HDR Camera, a gimbal that can look straight up, and the ability to fly in GPS-denied or high RF-interference environments. Skydio 2 operates just as well under a bridge as in an open field, avoiding every obstacle while allowing pilots to focus on capturing the right photos of the asset they are inspecting. We are excited in this video to showcase Collins Engineering and the Minnesota Department of Transportation, and to be working with the nation's most advanced departments to bring autonomous drone operations to their drone programs.
