McKinley senior Kobe Johnson and Green head coach Mark Kinsley have been named to the Division I-II North-South Game by the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association.

Although the game will not be played for a second straight year due to COVID-19, players and coaches still were honored with selection to North and South teams for Divisions I-II and Divisions III-IV.

Johnson and Kinsley are part of the Division I-II North team, which includes stars such as Ohio Mr. Basketball Malaki Branham of St. Vincent-St. Mary, Mentor’s Luke Chicone and Medina’s Corey Tripp.

Johnson, the state’s Division I Player of the Year according to the Ohio Prep Sports Writers Association, averaged 20.7 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.3 assists in leading the Bulldogs to an outright Federal League championship and a district runner-up finish. The 6-foot-4 combo guard, a West Virginia recruit, shot 51.1 percent from the floor and 40.6 percent from 3-point range. He set McKinley’s career scoring record with 1,566 points.

Former Walsh University men’s basketball point guard Christian Montague is transferring to West Liberty, he announced on social media.

A two-time second-team All-Great Midwest Athletic Conference pick, Montague entered the transfer portal last month after averaging 13.3 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 16 games this past season as a redshirt sophomore. The Cavaliers went 11-9 coming off back-to-back conference tournament championships.
