HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - The long wait will soon be over for Kauai residents eager for Target to open up shop on the Garden Isle.

The retailer recently announced they will be taking over the old Kmart location at 4303 Nawiliwili Road, and opening their eight Hawaii store.

“Target has plans to open a store at Kukui Grove Center in the coming years. We’re excited to bring an easy, safe and convenient shopping experience to new guests in the Kauai community with this new Target store," the company said.

There is no grand opening date right now, but the store will fill approximately 122,000 square feet of retail space.

The building has sat empty over the last two years since Kmart closed its doors for good in September 2018.
