Ivanka Trump loves an eye-catching outfit, but her latest fashion choice is raising eyebrows for not-so-positive reasons.

The daughter of US President Donald Trump attended the World Assembly for Women in Tokyo on Friday, where she was introduced by Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

The 36-year-old, who has a fashion line of her own, wore a bright pink Miu Miu crepe jacket and matching miniskirt.

Ivanka’s mid-thigh hemline quickly drew the attention of social media users, who questioned whether it was an appropriate choice for such an official occasion.

“I'm no prude, but that skirt is awfully short for the circumstances,” one tweeted, while another added it was too short for a meeting with a world leader.

“Not an outfit worn by a serious professional woman. However, it is suitable for a 13 year old to wear to a bar mitzvah,” another wrote.

This isn’t the first time the mother of three’s official sartorial choices have attracted scrutiny.

For her father’s first address to Congress in March, Ivanka wore an off-the-shoulder gown valued at almost $4000.

The burgandy dress, by French designer Roland Mouret, was criticised on several counts.

Some viewers took issue with the cocktail design, which they deemed inappropriate for an event as momentous as the State of the Union address.

“Show respect for the institutions of our democracy. Your dress is fine for cocktails but not for a joint session of Congress,” one person tweeted.

Others suggested the gown’s black strap resembled an exposed bra strap.

Ivanka’s decision to wear a French designer rather than an American one also drew ire.

First Lady Melania Trump has drawn her share of fashion-related criticism, too.

Most recently, she was mocked for wearing a pair of high stiletto heels while visiting Texas with President Trump after widespread flooding in August.

"Help is on the way, Texas! Don't worry, Melania has her special storm stilettos," television writer-producer Brad Wollack quipped on twitter.

"Melania over here looking like Flood Watch Barbie," writer Maria Del Russo added.
