Today in history: Shah Jahan's beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal passed away on June 17, 1631

Mumtaz Mahal, wife of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, died on June 17 in the year 1631. She passed away as she was giving birth to their fourteenth child, a daughter named Gauhara Begum in Burhanpur, Madhya Pradesh. Born in 1593, Mumtaz Mahal's maiden name was Arjumand Banu Begum. In 1607, Shah Jahan fell in love with her at first sight and waited for five years to marry her until she was 19-years-old.
