Why Gratitude Is Good

If you're in the spirit of Thanksgiving, Lifehacker's weekly meditative thought may speak to you. It comes from the Greek philosopher, Epictetus who "reminds us that we should show gratitude for what we have." Lifehacker quotes him as saying, "He is a wise man who does not grieve for the things which he has not, but rejoices for those which he has.” Why? According to the philosopher, material possessions are simply borrowed from the universe, so don't get mad when they're taken away.
