After being put on hold for 18 months due to the pandemic, the Met Gala 2021 made up for lost time as this year’s star-studded delivered some incredible looks.

As one of the fashion’s biggest nights of the year, the Met Gala is held to raise funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. This year was no different, as the guests opted for all-out glamour.

This year’s theme is ‘In America: A Lexicon of Fashion’ and many did their homework well, by adding their own twist to their star-spangled ensembles.

While all of the stars were dressed to the nines, there’s some that particularly stood out.

Billie Eilish was elegantly adorned in a gorgeous Oscar De La Renta gown, completely fur-free to match her ideals. Designed especially for her, she’s another star who’s on the journey of being a catalyst for change.

Known for usually stealing the show, Rihanna appeared with A$AP Rocky in Balenciaga couture complemented by jewellery from Maria Tash.

Wearing a thigh-high Prada dress with leather gloves, Gigi Hadid’s look was styled with a high ponytail for a sophisticated finish. Her dramatic voluminous red hair also made its debut at the event. Gigi also wore a statement necklace designed by Jacob & Co. – a unique piece with a total weight of 140 carats and a central stone of 92 carats.

Seen in a Ralph Lauren brown beaded gown, Jennifer Lopez looked as elegant as ever. She accessorised her look with a low-slung belt and a fur bolero to emulate that Indiana Jones feel.

Hailey Bieber embraced the power of simplicity at this year’s Met Gala. She opted for an all-black evening attire created by Saint Laurent, inspired by Grace Kelly’s world.

Emma Chamberlain

Seen wearing Louis Vuitton to the opening exhibition of the Met Gala, Emma Chamberlain’s custom asymmetric gown is made of silk organza, embroidered with sequins and rhinestones. Paired with Louis Vuitton’s high jewellery collection, the complete look was definitely one of our favourites.

Kim Kardashian

Pushing the boundaries of fashion, Kim Kardashian wore something unlike anyone else has to the Met Gala before. Opting for a black Balenciaga haute couture gown, her face was completely covered in the same opaque black material. Given that she was covered head-to-toe, the star could have been super sly and just hired a body double for the event!

Making a fiery entrance in a red Vera Wang gown, the model set foot to the event with her show-stopping figure. The flowing silhouette was made of sheer fabric and featured an elegant scarlet flower to complete the look.

Even though the guest list was cut down due to the pandemic, it was nothing less than impactful.

The exhibition is open to the public in the Anna Wintour Costume Center on September 18, 2021, and part two of the instalment will take place on May 2, 2022, with the theme entitled ‘In America: An Anthology of Fashion’.
