(TAP) - A small cabinet meeting was held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Caretaker Prime Minister Youssef Chahed, to review all measures taken in the context of the prevention of the Coronavirus.

On this occasion, Chahed stressed the need to consolidate surveillance measures and to raise the level of vigilance, control and rapid response throughout the country. He announced that governors have been tasked with the immediate implementation of these measures, activating regional committees for the fight against natural disasters and organising relief efforts within the framework of the prevention of the virus, a statement of the Prime Ministry, issued Wednesday, reads.

Chahed also called for coordination among concerned government agencies to deal with the virus in an optimal way, the same source added.

For her part, acting Health Minister Sonia Ben Cheikh said in a presentation on the Coronavirus prevention strategy, that Tunisia has not so far recorded any cases of contamination by the virus, noting that the services of her department are closely monitoring the epidemiological situation both nationwide and worldwide through the permanent national commission for monitoring the spread of the Coronavirus, which includes representatives of concerned ministries, relevant professional organisations and the World Health Organization (WHO) office in Tunisia.

The Minister said that the national strategy of surveillance and prevention of Coronavirus is based on several axes, including strengthening control at land and sea border crossings and airports, strengthening prevention, awareness and preparations at the level of public and private health structures and monitoring the epidemiological situation at the global level in coordination with Tunisian embassies abroad.
