Three Egyptians won all three top prizes at a recent Dubai Police event.

Youssef Awad won the first prize at the Dubai Police Capture the Flag Cyber Security Challenge, while Mohamed Hamouda and Ahmed Aboul-Elawon won the second and third prize, respectively.

Furthermore, the youngest participant at the hacking challenge was a 14-year-old Zeyad Hossam, who was also Egyptian.

Capture the Flag (CTF), organised by Dubai Police in collaboration with Great Minds Event Management. A total of 50 brilliant minds from 15 countries participated in Capture the Flag challenge.

Participants hailed from the UAE, The United Kingdom, Belgium, Egypt, Sudan, India, Palestine, Afghanistan, Indonesia, Syria, Nigeria and Greece.

The challenge, took place at Hub Zero, City Walk, provided an opportunity to apply penetration testing and analytical skills in a real-world cybersecurity scenario.

The participants were shortlisted from among a total of 220 applicants after passing an online challenge.

During the two-day challenge, Cybersecurity enthusiasts faced pre-designed cyberattacks during this year's competition. Their capabilities are being tested through identifying anonymous cyber threats, conquering those attacks, which intend to cause harm to individuals, their belongings and penetrate their privacy.

"Capture the Flag" cybersecurity challenge aims to promoting awareness among all segments of the society, especially young people about the importance of adopting knowledge and solutions for cyber protection.

The winners of the challenge were announced during the closing ceremony on February 23 at 7pm, in the presence of Brigadier Jamal Salem Al Jalaf, Director of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Dubai Police.
