A grieving dog owner has set up a memorial for their deceased pet at a popular beach with a basket of free balls for other walkers.

The heartwarming tribute in the form of a box with tennis balls inside for dog owners was placed at Mandurah in Western Australia.

The owner also included an adorable photo of their dog Bruce and a note.

'In loving memory of Bruce,' the note began

'Please help yourself to a tennis ball for your dog to enjoy. You may also wish to pop it back in the box afterwards for another dog to play with. If you wish to keep it that's fine too!

'Remember to live each moment like your dog with unconditional love, loyalty and happiness.'

'RIP Bruce, if your humans did this in your memory I’m sure you had a wonderful life,' another commented.

'I hope Bruce is chasing balls in doggy heaven. I also hope his owners find peace in knowing they have touched so many people with their gesture,' another comment read.
