A Greens candidate has been exposed as a rap singer called 'FatGut' who wrote lyrics about date-raping women and wanting to bash his girlfriend.

Angus McAlpine, who is running in the inner-Melbourne seat of Footscray at this month's Victorian election, was the frontman for Broken Aesthetiks.

In one rap track, he says, 'My name's FatGut, I bang fat sl**s only.'

The misogynist lyrics don't end there, with the same track featuring the line, 'Got something to say, b****?'.

The tattooed artist with a beard also boasted about date raping women, with the lyrics 'date rape drugs in her drink then have my way'.

One song also alludes to domestic violence.

'It hurts me to the end because I want to hurt my f***ing girlfriend,' he said.

The Greens candidate, who has a day job as a plumber on construction sites, was 21 when the album was released in 2010.

On Tuesday, he held a media conference apologising for the rap lyrics.

'I'd like to, at the very outset, say unreservedly how truly, deeply sorry I am for the offence, the degradation, the humiliation, the triggering that those lyrics that I once performed have had on anyone who's heard them,' he told reporters.

'If I could go back in time and speak to that young bloke, and tell them that the way that the words that they are speaking, I'd tell them not to do it.'

The Greens candidate so he also moved overseas six years ago to 'escape a culture of toxic masculinity and cheap, crude humour of hip-hop'.

'I was headed down a path of self-destruction,' he said.

A News Corp analysis found Broken Aesthetiks had rapped about stealing a police car, ram raid robberies and drug taking.

A fortnight ago a Victorian Greens candidate, Joanna Nilson, pulled out of the race for an upper house seat after it was revealed she had bragged about shoplifting and turning up to work late with a hangover.

The Greens have eight MPs in the Victorian Parliament, including three in the lower house.

Victorians go to the polls on November 24.
