Is this Australia's strangest fence?

A Gold Coast homeowner has divided his neighbourhood after building a fence made entirely from garage doors.

The man pulled down an old wooden fence and erected the eye-catching grey wall around his home on Manatoka Place at Ormeau.

Neighbours say looks aren't the only issue, with some concerned about safety and also its impact on house prices.

Tom Foster lives on the street and told 9News the man who built it isn't interested in listening to their concerns.

"It's hideous, there's no other way to describe it," he said.

"We've tried to talk to him, we've tried to reason with him."

Mr Foster said he's been lobbying the local council for months to have the garage doors pulled down.

"We do plan to move in the foreseeable future but what does it do to our house price?" he said.

Despite the impasse, Mr Foster is still hopeful he and his neighbour can get over it before the dispute gets any worse.

"We're all happy to give him a hand to build a fence if that's what he wants," he said.

"If he put a barby on with some beers we'd all come and give him a hand with a bit of comradery."

Council says it's looking into the matter.
