A NSW high school will close for a day after a Year 11 student tested positive for COVID-19, in what is the state's 25th confirmed case of the coronavirus strain.

NSW Health and Education confirmed the one-day closure on Friday at Epping Boys High School in a statement on Thursday night.

Students and staff at the school have been advised by NSW Health to stay at home and self-isolate, and await a statement from the school this weekend regarding next steps.

"We are immediately establishing contact with all new cases and their families, as well as their close contacts and advising them to self-isolate for 14 days, monitor their health and be tested for COVID-19 should they become unwell," said NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant.

"Education has well-prepared continuity plans and is contacting students, parents and the broader school community to provide advice and support," Mark Scott, Secretary of Education added.
