Tropical storm brings wild weather to north Queensland
Cyclone Niran is gaining strength off the far north Queensland coast. Deputy Mayor of Cairns Terry James says yesterday's weather was gusty, damaging trees and crops. He thought the winds were equivalent to a category 1 cyclone. It's now category 2 and is about 250km east-north-east of Cooktown.
