U.S. Justice has issued an order Tuesday to seize the private plane of Russian oligarch Andrei Skoch, valued at about $90 million (88 million euros) as part of measures taken against Russia in response to the invasion of Ukraine.

Skoch, a billionaire and member of the United Russia party, was sanctioned in 2018 by the Treasury Department for his possible links organized crime in Russia. However, after the start of the war, Washington imposed further measures against him.

Now, prosecutors have indicated that Skoch is the ultimate owner of the aircraft, albeit through front companies, and has been making the insurance payment in dollars, so he would have violated sanctions. The aircraft is currently in Kazakhstan, according to information from CNN television network.

Prosecutors have indicated that Skoch also owns a yacht and a helicopter, although they are not subject to restrictions or seizures. The U.S. authorities must first prove that sanctions have been violated in relation to these assets.
