Social media is abuzz after a woman posted video on her Facebook account showing a strange creature resembling an elf from the Harry Potter movies saunter through her driveway.

Vivian Gomez, who lives in Colorado, took to Facebook on Thursday and wrote: ‘So I woke up Sunday morning and saw this on my camera and am trying to figure out... what the heck??

‘First I saw the shadow walking from my front door then I saw this thing....has anyone else seen this on their cameras??

‘The other two cameras didn’t pick it up for some reason.’

Another Twitter user wrote: 'Y’all are so dumb just because Dobby died in the movie doesn’t mean Dobby the actor is dead in real life! Gosh some people don’t understand how movies work clearly.'

Others pointed out the video may be fake with many people asking whether the footage was 'real' or had been 'photoshopped'.

Gomez replied that it was real and added: 'I’ve watched it over and over and keep lights on inside now.'

Another user asked: 'Do you have a Ring doorbell? The motion sensors will alert you as soon as anyone comes near your property. So creepy!!! Are you sure you're not pulling our legs?! Lol'

Gomez replied: 'No Ring doorbell just cameras. How can I fake that? I’m not that tech savvy unfortunately.'
