FCA has announced that its new e-commerce platform, Uconnect Market, will start rolling out in phases to designated global regions in the second half of 2019 (so as early as next week) on 2019-20 model-year Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram vehicles equipped with Uconnect and the 8.4-inch instrument-panel display. It will be automatically downloaded with the latest updates.

“Our customers live busy lives, and our goal with the Uconnect platform is to provide an advanced portfolio of services to make their daily drive more convenient, productive and enjoyable,” said Alan D’Agostini, FCA’s Global Head of Connected Services. “This is why we are launching Uconnect Market, as we continue to ramp-up our connectivity efforts around the world with the goal of having all new FCA vehicles connected by 2022.”

Developed in partnership with Xevo, the Seattle-based world leader in in-car connectivity and smart-consumer experiences, Uconnect Market allows customers to interact directly with merchants such as Shell, Domino’s Pizza, ParkWhiz and Yelp Reservations directly through the vehicle’s touchscreen, and then pay for purchases and services using the onboard “wallet.”

As with mobile apps, users set up an account and link a credit card to it. Then all that’s needed is to tap the wallet to enact financial transfers to merchants as needed. Merchants can also transfer “coupons” to users, such as Mopar offering service offers when customers are scheduling service through Uconnect Market.

Similarly, filling up at participating Shell stations is fast and easy, by first finding participating stations, then enabling pay and pump, completing the transaction, pumping fuel and driving away.

Users can also use Yelp to identify restaurants according to type or cuisine, and then make reservations at participating restaurants. Finding parking is equally easy and fast, at ParkWhiz parking facilities located throughout North America.

The new system, powered by Android, promptly and securely manages data using architecture based on Samsung’s Harman Ignite cloud-based platform. The system also offers fast and seamless wireless integration with customer’s mobile devices.
