A jewelry store robbery at Southgate Mall ended with the deployment of a “noxious spray” and two suspects on the lam.

Just before 12:30 p.m. Monday, officers responded to a robbery call at Southgate Centre, Edmonton police spokesman Scott Pattison said in an emailed statement.

It was reported several suspects attempted to rob a jewelry store inside the mall and in doing so, deployed a “noxious spray.”

Edmonton Fire Rescue Services evacuated the north side of the mall in order to ventilate the area.

One man was taken into custody and two other suspects are believed to have fled the mall.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to contact police.
