A driver from Quebec was using every one of the 707 horses under the hood of their sports car when they blasted by a parked Ontario Provincial Police car at 271 km/h Saturday morning.

And they might still be driving if they hadn’t blown a rear tire seconds after passing the patrol officer.

The apple-green vehicle blew by the OPP officer just before 12:30 am on eastbound Highway 417, just past Hawkesbury. Last fall, the province increased the speed limit on the 417 on the section from Anderson Road to just before the border to Quebec.

Despite the tire damage, the driver managed to bring the vehicle to the side of the road. The driver was not injured

“It would likely have been a much different story it it had been a front tire (that blew),” an OPP spokesman said Saturday.

The driver was charged with stunt driving, careless driving and driving with cannabis readily available.

Stunt driving applies when the vehicle is travelling at 50 km/h over the speed limit.
