40-vehicle pileup closes westbound Stoney Trail S.E.

The westbound lanes of Stoney Trail S.E. west of Deerfoot Trail are now closed due to a collision involving dozens of drivers.

The Calgary Fire Department said about 40 vehicles are tangled up in the westbound lanes of Stoney Trail S.E. between Chaparral Blvd. and Cranston Blvd. S.E.

All westbound lanes of Stoney Trail S.E. near the incident are shut down as emergency crews work to clear the scene.

Adam Loria with Calgary EMS said approximately seven people have been transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Heavy fog and slick road conditions were reported near the crash scene. The Calgary Police Service has been reminding drivers to turn their lights on, keep a good distance between vehicles and drive to the conditions.
