Mansory's Air Jordan 11 Lawnmower Makes No Sense

Last month, Nike released a new colorway celebrating the 25th anniversary of its legendary Air Jordan XI, dubbed the "Jubilee." BSTN, a German menswear boutique with a six-figure Instagram following, saw this as an opportunity to commission a customized lawnmower, so it called up the infamous German customization house Mansory.

Wait, what?!

As it turns out, iconic sneaker designer Tinker Hadfield once mentioned that the Jordan 11, the shoe new NASCAR team owner Michael Jordan wore during both his 1996 championship season and the filming of his hit film Space Jam, was inspired by a push mower. Not the design of the shoe itself, mind you, but the need for the shoe to be rugged and capable of handling significant workloads. This was enough for BSTN to run with the idea. The result is the BSTN GT XI, a one-of-one custom riding mower that shares almost no design elements with the Jordan 11 itself.

While the Jordan 11 is most famous for its liberal use of patent leather and evocative icy sole, it does feature a carbon fiber accent on the outsole. This being a Mansory project, the lawnmower features heavy carbon fiber accents. The "Jubilee" colorway is primarily black, with a white outsole and silver accents, so the GT XI features whitewall tires and some silver text. In every other way, the two have almost nothing in common.

The two do have at least one thing in common; while Mansory's lawnmower is not available to private buyers, the Jordan 11 "Jubilee" sold out almost immediately and is only available from resellers.
