Edmonton weather: Temperatures improve, extreme cold warning lifted

Currently, it’s -14 C at the Edmonton Blatchford weather station with 11 km/h winds from the southwest and a wind chill of -20.

It isn’t warm yet, but the extreme cold warning has been lifted for Edmonton and the surrounding areas. Temperatures are supposed to improve as the day goes on, with the daytime high reaching -3 C this afternoon.

This is a welcome change from the brutally cold temperatures we endured yesterday.

While walking the dog yesterday, icicles formed on my eyelashes. That’s cold.

Today will feel almost tropical in comparison. Canadian tropical, of course.

The warmer temperatures stick around for the rest of the week but dip down again for the weekend. They shouldn’t go into the extreme cold territory but overnight lows will be in the -20 to -25 C range.
