Ant and Dec overwhelmed as they discover they're cousins in big twist

Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly were left overwhelmed when they found out they're DNA cousins in tonight's final episode of their two-part documentary.

The presenting duo have been digging to find out the truth about their family history and were left surprised by the huge reveal.

Ant, 43, and Dec, 44, were told the exciting news by the show's scientist after fans even speculated the Geordie lads were related somewhere down the line.

Ant read out a message on his phone saying: "Ant you have a DNA cousin match," as Dec also read out the same message on his phone.

Each of them split off into different locations ahead of the announcement - where Dec was greeted by his American cousins Megan and Greg.

Dec was handed an envelope which revealed the pair are in fact DNA cousins, leaving them both completely shocked at the news.

It comes after Dec teased there would be a twist in the show during a Q&A with Mirror Online.

He unveiled: "We knew we weren't brothers. But there's some quite interesting twists in part two."

Ant and Dec embarked on a two-year adventure to find out more about their past family history - starting in 2017.

The pair delved into their family trees for the ITV show and uncovered their relations, with Dec finding out he had American cousins.

Speaking to Mirror Online on the subject of how the idea came about, Ant said: "The idea was from a friend of ours Alistair Moffett. He was trying to drum up men from the North East.

"He was trying to get samples of DNA because apparently in the North East that's where they were lacking. He said, 'Can you help us out and we would like to publish the results', I said yes absolutely."

Co-star Dec added: "What we were gonna do was take a DNA test as a favour for him really, and then do a piece in the local paper in the North East saying, 'We've done a DNA test, why don't you?'

The pair also admitted they knew barely anything about their families who nervously waited to meet and greet the famous telly favourites.

"We obviously spent a lot longer at the pub finding out about people and finding out about yourself and where you are from."

Ant confessed: "I can't wait. Loved the show. Having had a year off I am chomping at the bit. Can't wait."

He continued: "We are so excited. I keep reading all the rumours about who is going in."
