The prospect of David Beckham becoming a 1930's gangster in BBC crime drama Peaky Blinders have been dashed by show bosses.

There was great excitement after Becks filled his Instagram story with snaps from his day on set with Cillian Murphy, as filming continued in Stockport.

Unfortunately, fans of the former England captain will not be seeing his acting career taking off with time on screen, despite him donning full Peaky regalia for his day on set.

Hopes of a cameo or walk-on part were dashed by a spokesman for the show, who confirmed to Manchester Evening News that the former Manchester United legend was there just to visit the cast.

It would seem that the 43-year-old enjoyed his day, as he apparently stayed in his Peaky Blinders styled outfit for his journey home.

The Sun has reported that fans of Becks were stunned to see him waiting for a train while dressed as a gangster from the Midlands-based series.

A fellow passenger said that Becks was spotted with his PR assistant and a bodyguard and was "chatty and friendly" with others waiting for the train to come.

With just two film credits to his name, both in Guy Ritchie flicks, it doesn't look like David is looking to forge a career in Hollywood or on the silver screen.

Maybe he doesn't see himself as the next Vinnie Jones just yet.
