James 'Arg' Argent has recalled his "near fatal overdose" from his birthday this time last year as he marked being sober for 11 months.

The 33 year old, whose ex Lydia Bright recently admitted they're still "good friends", took to his Instagram feed to share a video of himself singing Blackbird by The Beatles as he opened up to his 777,000 followers.

"A year ago today on my birthday I was rushed into hospital after a near fatal drug overdose," he explained. "Today I’m over 11 months clean & sober, If I can achieve this in 2020 with everything against me then I believe I can achieve anything."

The former TOWIE star went on to thank his fans, friends and family for their support as he continues on his journey of sobriety.

He said: "Thank you for your love & best wishes. I will continue to make my Family, Friends & supporters proud of me. Love Arg," followed by a red heart emoji.

Arg, who was recently seen smiling as he sang to people on their doorsteps, added: "Ps Whenever I feel down or depressed I listen to @thebeatles & it makes me feel better! X".

Best friend Mark Wright immediately commented on the post as he wrote: "I am beyond proud of you Arg.

"I was so worried about you every day, you gave me constant anxiety, to be 11 months sober is incredible for somebody that was in such a dark place.

"Nobody who is not a drug addict will EVER understand what an addict goes through. Ultimately I am so proud of you," alongside a blue heart emoji.

Many of his other celebrity friends also shared their pride in their pal as Megan McKenna said: "Love you Arg," while Shaughna Phillips chimed: "What an achievement, you should be very proud of yourself," with a red heart emoji.

Last year it was reported that Arg spent the night in hospital after pals feared he suffered his second overdose in two months.

He had worried friends after failing to show up to Umar Kamani’s Pretty Little Thing fashion launch in Dublin.

The Sun reported that ambulance crews arrived at the former TOWIE star's £1.3million home after it had become apparent that James had been missing for 48 hours.

He was said to be "out of it" while speaking to the medics on sight and refused to get into the ambulance before being rushed off to the hospital.

A source close to James told the publication at the time: "Arg was disorientated and looked like he hadn’t eaten in days. He has been in denial of how bad it’s got and convinced everyone he’s fine but that couldn’t be further from the truth.

“He’s been suffering with depression and has been in a bad place for years. This is another blip in his recovery but it is the wake up call he needs.

“Arg is desperate to be happy and healthy again and now accepts he needs professional help to overcome his demons.”
