Despite being slated for release a week today, Emily Blint and Cillian Murphy's horror sequel A Quiet Place 2 is set to be delayed in Europe due to the spread of coronavirus.

Writer and director John Krasinski has confirmed that it will be pushed back, but didn't say when A Quiet Place 2 might actually arrive.

"One of the things I'm most proud of is that people have said our movie is one you have to see all together. Well due to the ever-changing circumstances of what's going on in the world around us, now is clearly not the right time to do that," Krasinski explained.

"As insanely excited as we are for all of you to see this movie... I'm gonna wait to release the film til we CAN all see it together! So here's to our group movie date! See you soon!"

Governments across the continent, as well as Ireland, are bringing in measures to discourage groups of people meeting in public, including postponing sports events – including all La Liga matches – and cultural events. Deadline reports that Paramount is preparing a further announcement today.

"UK exhibitors were notified by this morning that the film is moving dates, and with cinemas shuttering across Europe as authorities impose restrictions on public gatherings, the film’s international roll out is likely to be severely disrupted," the report says.

A Quiet Place 2 would be the third major film to be pushed back by the coronavirus outbreak, following Daniel Craig's final Bond film No Time To Die and the slightly less hotly anticipated Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway.
