Fans absolutely hated these casting choices
Russell Crowe as Javert
When you’re adapting a classic and beloved musical like Les Misérables for the big screen, you’d better make sure your big-name stars can sing. Fans, especially theatre lovers, were highly critical of the decision to cast Russell Crowe as Javert in the 2012 movie, citing his inability to sing and suggesting he couldn’t capture the inspector’s intriguing and powerful personality. Crowe is an Academy Award winner and has been the vocalist in several bands, but viewers still found his performance subpar, especially next to theatre veteran Hugh Jackman who played Jean Valjean.
