Once Upon a Time in Hollywood comes to UK cinemas today (14 August), Quentin Tarantino‘s love letter to all things Hollywood.

The film continues the director’s fascination with the medium of cinema itself, telling the story of a Charles Manson-era LA in which struggling actors work against the backdrop of streets stalked by a serial killer.

The film reunites the director with many of his previous actors; Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt star alongside Margot Robbie, Damian Lewis, Dakota Fanning, Al Pacino, and Emile Hirsch among others.

It's another of the director’s sprawling ensemble works, with a cast of names as long as it is star-studded.

Leonardo DiCaprio plays Rick Dalton, a now-struggling actor who once starred in a popular Western television series, but attempted to transition into film and failed.

Though the character may be inspired by actors whose paths were on a downward trajectory after their type of leading men went out of fashion, DiCaprio isn't going out of style for a while - the Oscar-winning actor has been seen in films like Inception, The Departed, Titanic and The Wolf of Wall Street.

Brad Pitt plays Dalton’s long-time stunt double and best friend Cliff Booth, and the Oscar-nominated actor has appeared in movies like Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Moneyball and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

Margot Robbie takes on the role of Sharon Tate, the promising Hollywood newcomer who was murdered by members of the Manson Family in the home she shared with director Roman Polanksi.

Robbie received an Oscar nomination for her role in I, Tonya, and has appeared in films such as Suicide Squad, The Wolf of Wall Street and The Legend of Tarzan.

Emile Hirsch plays Jay Sebring, a celebrity hair stylist who was murdered by members of the Manson Family along with Tate (who was his ex-girlfriend). Hirsch has had big-screen roles in Into the Wild, Speed Racer and Milk.

Margaret Qualley plays Pussycat, a fictional Manson Family member based on real followers of the murderous cult leader. Qualley made an appearance as Ann Reinking in acclaimed showbiz drama, Fosse/Verdon.

Timothy Olyphant plays film and TV actor James Stacy - Olyphant's most recent high-profile role was his co-starring turn opposite Drew Barrymore in Netflix's cannibal comedy, Santa Clarita Diet.

Child actor Julia Butters plays the similarly aged actor Trudi Fraser, and has appeared in Amazon Prime dramedy, Transparent.

Austin Butler, who plays Manson Family member Charles “Tex” Watson - appears in recent Jim Jarmusch film The Dead Don't Die, and will be taking on the king of rock 'n' roll in the upcoming Elvis Presley biopic.

Dakota Fanning also plays a Manson Family member, and the young actress has appeared in films like War of the Worlds, Man on Fire and Coraline.

Bruce Dern - who plays octogenarian ranch owner George Spahn - previously appeared in Tarantino's The Hateful Eight, and has also been seen in films like Nebraska and The Mustang.

Mike Moh looks like he had a lot of fun in his role as Bruce Lee, and has appeared in a number of martial arts focused films and TV shows, like Marvel's Inhumans.

Most recently appearing in Netflix's Riverdale, Luke Perry was something of a teen idol in the late 90s and early 00s, appearing in shows like 90210 and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. In Tarantino's film he plays actor Wayne Maunder.

Damien Lewis takes on the enviable role of Steve McQueen in the new movie, but he's probably more recognised for his TV work, including Billions, Band of Brothers and Homeland.
