This Shrek theory about the Three Bears is seriously dark!

We adored everything about the swamp-loving ogre and his wise-cracking sidekick Donkey and cheered loudly at its brilliant ending!

The film was a triumph both critically and financially and spawned a host of sequels and even a spin-off franchise for the character of Puss in Boots.

One of the best things about the film was the amount of adult humour sprinkled heavily throughout that sailed straight over kids’ heads but cracked up older members of the audience.

A series of pictures posted by Twitter user Tiffany Lauran has gone viral that shows three separate scenes involving the Three Bears and we have to say, we’re a little traumatised.

Here are the pics a bit more close up.

There’s Daddy Bear consoling a very upset Baby Bear…

And oh dear God, yes, there’s Mama Bear as a rug in Lord Farquaad’s castle later in the film!

Needless to say, Twitter users were distraught by the brutal new trivia. Here are some of the responses:

One person tried to make things better by saying that Mama Bear comes back to life in the end for the karaoke scene…

But he was quickly shut down by Shrek aficionados who said that she was actually the new female in Daddy Bears life…

Well, thanks for that Internet. You know, sometimes ignorance really is bliss. If you need us, we’ll be trying to get the hashtag #JusticeForMamaBear to go viral…
