The Arctic Monkeys appearance at TRNSMT has been whispered about since the festival's inaugural year, so fans will be delighted that the news is finally confirmed.

The English rockers join The Killers, Liam Gallagher and Stereophonics as headliners for the five-day festival, with one more still to be unveiled.

Acts like CHRVCHES, The Script, Courteeners, James Bay, Wolf Alice and Franz Ferdinand have also been announced.

The news comes after TRNSMT announced they would expand from three days to five, with the line-up spanning across two weekends.

Punters had already started buying tickets for next year but organisers have now announced the main festival weekend will take place over three days on June 29 – July 1 with two shows taking place the following weekend on July 6 and 8.

The move forced the festival and Glasgow City Council to deny the date change was due to the Orange Walk, which traditionally takes place on the first Saturday of every month.

Last year more than 120,000 music fans flocked to Glasgow Green to see headline acts that included Radiohead, Kasabian and Biffy Clyro and the event attracted rave reviews.

Geoff Ellis, Head of DF Concerts said: “DF Concerts are thrilled to bring TRNSMT fans Arctic Monkeys as our opening weekend’s final headliners; we’ve wanted to have them back in Scotland for a while now and can’t wait to see what their set will bring.

"Sunday 1 July’s line-up is a combination of legends and bright young stars. We have one more headliner to announce before our line-up is complete and we can assure fans TRNSMT 2018 will be unmissable. Stay tuned!”
