The Walking Dead's Lauren Cohan has revealed why she didn't rise from the dead to make a return to Supernatural for its final episodes.

Cohan played recurring villain Bela Talbot in Supernatural's third season, with the character meeting her demise off screen.

Speaking to CinemaBlend about if she'd ever had conversations about a Supernatural return, Cohan revealed talks had happened, just not recently.

"We did [have talks]. It wasn't for the final episodes, but a couple of years ago, there was a small thing they wanted to do, and it was like at the exact same time as something really heavy on The Walking Dead," she said.

"And no, it just didn't happen. This is years ago, but no... They should have."

Cohan went on to say that Supernatural missed an opportunity by not having her share a scene with her Walking Dead co-star Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who played Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean's (Jensen Ackles) dad, John Winchester.

"They could have had me and [Jeffrey Dean Morgan] in some random moment. They didn't know each other, or wouldn't have met, but then that would be three things that he and I have played across from each other," Cohan said.

"So that was an untapped opportunity, if you ask me."

But while Cohan didn't return to Supernatural, she will be returning to The Walking Dead as Maggie for season 10's six additional episodes next year.

Supernatural aired on The CW in the US. In the UK, the show airs on 4Music.
