Everyone will be able to recall a time they wish the ground would have just swallowed them whole. Whether that was with friends, on public transport, in a shop or at school. We all have our own version of a story that ends with a reddened face and mortification.

One Lidl shopper shared her own experience on social media and has since vowed to ‘never go back’. The shopper went to the check out with good intentions but what transpired next left her wishing she had stayed at home, The Mirror reports.

It seems the woman had made quite an innocent joke with the cashier but upon regarding the contents of her trolley it took on an inappropriate nature. The shopper detailed the horrifying exchange on the Facebook group Family Lowdown Tips & Ideas which has a membership surpassing 1.2+ million.

The customer wrote: “I don’t think I can ever go back to Lidl again! Bloke in front of me had a shed load of booze in his trolley. Friendly cashier asks, ‘Having a party, sir?’ Upon my purchase of a mini bottle of Prosecco I pipe up ‘I’m having a party too! Woohoo! Then realise I have one other item in my basket...a cucumber…friendly cashier looks at me, I look at him, then I, predictable, get a massive laugh attack and can hardly breathe to pay the poor man. RIP my time at Lidl.”

Some Facebook users took to the comment section to share their own similarly embarrassing shopping stories. Others were simply left in hysterics over the ordeal.

One user gushed: “As a cashier, we love customers like you! You’re definitely going to be more than welcome back! So few customers have a wicked sense of humour…” Someone else wrote: “I just read that in a restaurant and now cannot stop laughing. It’s the gift that keeps on giving…” A third added: “That’s so funny at least you have given everyone an unforgettable shopping experience lol.”
