A Benfleet cafe has announced they will be offering 200 homemade cream teas in light of Queen Elizabeth II's funeral. Peggy Cafe, in South Benfleet, shared the news on Facebook on Thursday (September 15) that they are giving away its version of the traditional English snack for residents to collect on Monday morning (September 19).

The Queen died peacefully at her Scottish holiday home in Balmoral on September 8 and her coffin was placed in Westminster Hall on Wednesday (September 14) as she will lie in state until Monday. Peggy's Cafe confirmed any remaining cream teas will be delivered to a local care home.

The original plan was to give out 150 snacks before it was increased to 200 due to popular demand. The giveaway is said to be aimed at the older generation or someone "who needs cheering from an act of kindness" in hopes of spreading the community spirit.
