London's seen a surge in cycling as commuters try their best to dodge pubic transport.

Whether you're considering investing in your first road bike or are just dusting the cobwebs off your old wheels, the capital is home to some charming independent bike shops where you can guarantee sound advice and solid service.

From Deptford to Clapton, here's where to buy and get your wheels fixed in London.

The Hackney Peddler

This Stoke Newington-based independent bike shop specialises in custom, classic and restored steel bikes.

The shop is currently open Mon-Fri (10am-7pm) and Saturday (10am-6pm) for bike sales, services and repairs.

Hub Vélo

Located in East London's Clapton, Hub Vélo has remained open throughout lockdown, prioritising repairs for NHS staff and key workers​. The is the only Stevens bikes dealer in the UK, the sole Flagship Cinelli dealer in London, and Brompton dealer.

The shop offers bike servicing and also sells cycling clothing and accessories, though the cafe remains closed for now.

If you're looking for a custom build, Stayer Cycles, an independent bike builders based in Leytonstone, comes highly recommended. They build frames and wheels for all types of cycling.

Pearson is recognised as the oldest bike shop in the world, having opened in 1860, it's now operated by the fifth generation of the same family. ​
