Leave the cryo chambers, altitude sleep therapy and blood flow restriction to the pros: when it comes to building muscle, the simplest advice is often the most effective. Which is why Men's Health UK has taken to TikTok to provide smart, digestible and effective advice for anyone looking to improve their health and fitness.

In a recent video, available on our account here, Men's Health UK fitness editor Andrew Tracey shares a handful of food 'hacks' that will help you build muscle, get leaner and stay satiated. Rest assured, there are no protein shakes in sight, nor are there any plastic containers loaded with boiled chicken and broccoli. Instead, Tracey walks you through his easy tips for gaining muscle that won't empty your wallet or demand hours of meal prep.

Tracey's key takeaways? It's all about protein. Building your meals around high-protein ingredients — including beef, chicken and eggs — and using an app, such as MyFitnessPal to track your protein intake, can make noticeable changes quicker than you think.

Structuring high-carbohydrate foods around your workouts will also help keep you energised and contribute to crafting a leaner physique. Likewise, high-protein yoghurts and cheeses can help bolster your protein intake, while calorie-dense foods such as avocados and peanut butters also have their place when it comes to gaining mass.
