Adorable Video Shows Lemurs Launching Themselves onto Their Keepers Arms

These lemurs love their caretaker so much that every time she launches them onto their play set - they jump right back into her arms. The bug-eyed primates’ behavior makes for an entertaining show, but keepers at San Antonio Zoo, Texas, are trying to train them out of the habit. Christina Burges, mammal manager at the zoo, said: “We have to work on decreasing this jumping behavior with them because we sometimes send animals to different zoos for breeding and conservation, and there are safety concerns. “While cute to watch, this behavior wouldn't be safe for a zookeeper that doesn’t know them. They’re friendly, but they’re not pets. Senior animal care specialist Angela Garza [in the video] has been working with the lemurs, named Billy and Jimmy, them since they were born in the spring of 2020. Christina said: “Angela has been making sure the pups are taken care of, and because she was there so often they got used to her. Now they just love jumping around.” Filmed 15th July 2021
