Hundreds of villagers converge on marshes to catch fish

Hundreds of villagers went fishing in marshes in northeastern Thailand this week. The angling event was held to raise funds to develop the village and improve marshes in the Phimai district of Nakhon Ratchasima on March 1. Organisers gave locals the chance to land as many species as they could before the marshes dry up during the current dry season. They included snakehead murrel, java barb, and Anabas testudineus. The villagers caught the fishes to be sold to vendors or to be eaten in their own families.
