Prince George's role at King Charles' coronation has sparked an "argument" among the Royals, an expert has claimed.

The Prince and Princess of Wales are said to be considering whether to allow George, nine, to take on a prominent role at his grandfather's coronation in May, but the couple are worried it may be too much pressure for their young son.

Leaked plans reveal that George and his siblings, Princess Charlotte, seven, and Prince Louis, four, are likely to join their parents in a carriage behind King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla as they leave the Abbey after the service, the Times reports.

While Charlotte and Louis would be attending the event as spectators, it's believed George may take on a bigger role.

Speaking to the Express, royal commentator Tom Quinn suggested George's role has caused "a bit of an argument" behind the scenes, as the Royals disagree over what the nine year old's responsibilities will be.

Kate, 41, and William, 40, are "worried" about the pressure George could face and think it could "be too much" for the youngster.

Tom said: "I've heard from my contacts that there is a bit of an argument going on about whether George should play a more formal role. I've heard that Kate and William are worried that it will be too much for him."

The expert suggested George will pay a role in the coronation, but added that it won't "be too prominent".

OK! has contacted Buckingham Palace for comment.

George and his younger sister Charlotte have began making more public appearances over recent years, with the pair attending Queen Elizabeth II's funeral in September 2022 and the Carol Service at Westminster Abbey in December.

Along with their younger brother Louis, they also attended many of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June, as their parents slowly introduce them to public duties.

Leaked plans have outlined what George, Charlotte and Louis could be doing at their grandfather's coronation, but the documents also show which Royals may not be taking part in the procession.

The current coronation rehearsal plans do not suggest Prince Harry and Meghan Markle or the Duke of York are expected to take part in the procession.

According to the leaked plans, Harry and Meghan’s children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, are not believed to have been invited to the coronation.

Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie will not be in the procession either, according to the documents.

Buckingham Palace has said the carriage procession after the Coronation will be significantly smaller, and shorter, than the procession after Queen Elizabeth's coronation.

However, the palace has insisted it will be "amazing in both scale and splendour".
