Prince William has revealed the 80s classic he used to sing at the top of voice with his late mother, Princess Diana. The 40-year-old Prince made the admission in a frank chat with the Apple Fitness + podcast Time to Walk where he also shared some special stories from within the Royal Family.

William revealed that as a child he was worried about every time he was on the journey back to Ludgrove School but that one song always managed to lift his spirits. It was a song that got the Princess of Wales singing too, reports the Mirror.

He said: “When I was younger, Harry and I, we were at boarding school. And my mother used to play all sorts of songs to kind of while away the anxiety of going back to school.

“And one of the songs I massively remember and has stuck with me all this time, and I still, to this day, still quite enjoy secretly, is Tina Turner's 'The Best' because sitting in the backseat, singing away, it felt like a real family moment.

“And my mother, she'd be driving along, singing at the top of her voice. And we'd even get the policeman in the car, he'd be occasionally singing along, as well.”

The royal singalong was something William found special at the time and in the years since, he has found it even more special as it really keeps the memory of his mother alive. He said: “That's when reality kind of sunk in that you really were going back to school because before that, you're lost in songs. You'll want to play it again just to keep that family moment going.

“And when I listen to it now, it takes me back to those car rides and brings back lots of memories of my mother.”

The Prince’s love of music has been passed on to his children too, with William revealing that Princes George and Louis as well as Princess Charlotte are just as interested in his musical tastes. However, there are often little squabbles between the children as they fight for their song of choice to be played.

He said: “What I've been amazed by is how much my children already have inherited my family's love of music. Most mornings there's a massive fight between Charlotte and George as to what song is played in the morning.

“And I have to, now, basically prioritise that one day someone does this one, and another day it's someone else's turn. So George gets his go, then Charlotte gets her go. Such is the clamour for the music.”

While Tina Turner holds a special place in William’s heart, he also went to reveal that one songstress has captivated the whole family - Shakira. The Colombian singer’s 2010 hit for the South Africa World Cup, Waka Waka (This Time for Africa), is among his family’s favourite tunes.

He said: “There's a lot of hip movements going along. There's a lot of dressing up. Charlotte, particularly, is running around the kitchen in her dresses and ballet stuff and everything.

“She goes completely crazy with Louis following her around trying to do the same thing. It's a really happy moment where the children just enjoy dancing, messing around and singing."
