The 'ordinary' Anglesey bungalow with an asking price bigger than a central London flat

From the outside, this property on the Anglesey coast looks like any other three-bedroom bungalow for sale in the region.

But its location, just minutes away from the beach in Rhosneigr, makes it worth more than a central London flat.

With a guide price of £595,000 - down from £625,000 - the detached and extended bungalow is said to be in “one of the most desirable locations in the village”.

But with the average wage in the area reported to be around £26,400 last year, according to the Office for National Statistics, the property is more than 22 times the average wage.

According to Rightmove, the property sold for just £60,000 in 1999.

It’s on the largest plot in the estate, away from the hustle and bustle of the high street - yet within walking distance of various shops and restaurants, fabulous sandy beaches, water sports facilities and an 18 hole link golf course.

It boasts an elevated position at the top of a quiet cul de sac, which has steps leading directly onto the beach.

It is also said to be “well positioned” to enjoy great views to the sea and in the evening, spectacular sunsets from either the front or back gardens.

Given the desirability of the area, the price tag makes it even more expensive then some properties in central London.

According to Rightmove, you could pick up a three-bedroom flat on Lupus Street in Pimlico - next to the Tate Britain gallery - for the same price as the Anglesey bungalow.

For £599,000, it offers a generously proportioned split-level interior with a private balcony, and has close proximity to amenities and transport links.

Another property, just walking distance from Buckingham Palace, is a three-bedroom flat in Troutbeck, Albany Street, which is on the market for £575,000.

The maisonette, which is arranged on the ground and first floors, comprises a separate kitchen with dining area, a reception area, three double bedrooms, separate cloakroom and toilet and a newly refurbished bathroom.

In North Wales, the same money could buy a three-bedroom detached house in the sought after hamlet of Crymlyn on the outskirts of Abergwyngregyn.

With views over the surrounding countryside and over to Penrhyn Castle, the Menai Strait and the Great Orme, the property stands in large landscaped gardens and a 1/4 of an acre paddock to the side which is currently used to graze sheep.

The Rhosneigr bungalow was added to Rightmove in April 2021.

Based on a 10% deposit and 25-year mortgage, monthly repayments would stand at around £2,376.
