Aston Villa attacking midfielder Emiliano Buendia has been suggested as a potential player that could be sold this summer should Conor Gallagher arrive from Chelsea.

Birmingham Live understands that Villa are "aware" of Gallagher's current situation at Chelsea. The England international has three years remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge after spending last season on loan at Crystal Palace.

Gallagher played predominantly as a central midfielder at Selhurst Park last season, and Villa adding another player in that area of the pitch - after already signing Boubacar Kamara on a free transfer earlier this month - could mean outgoings are required. That is, at least, according to former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan.

“You’ve got to look, they’ve got a lot of midfield players,” Whelan told Football Insider. “Something’s going to have to give in terms of midfield players at that football club because they seem to have a lot of big names, and there are only few positions you can give.

“They’ve spent quite a bit of money and are doing business early again. He would be a good buy. He’s forced his way into the England reckoning and is a very tender age still but has a wise head of shoulders. I can only see him getting better, and £30million would be about right for what he can give you as a player in a squad.

“If he does come into Aston Villa, there’s got to be a sale on the cards. Whether that be Buendia or somebody else. Gallagher is quite an attacking player as well. If one comes in, then as long as someone goes out, it could work.”
