A mum has issued a chilling warning over a Santa Claus app reportedly telling children it will find them and KILL them.

The mum has been left started by the sinister message, with it creepily threatening kids as young as three.

The mum's warning, posted on social media, relates to the 'Santa Call New 2018' app, which is available for download.

Sickeningly, the mum revealed when kids press the 'call' button, the app dials Santa before being told: "Hello there. Can you hear me?children.

"In five nights, if you're free, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you."

A safe app to use

If you’ve seen friends sharing videos of their kids chatting on the phone to Santa, you may be wondering what all the fuss is about.

One safe app BirminghamLive is a fan of is this new app which enables your child to receive an “interactive video call” from the man in red himself.

We decided to download it to see if it’s any good.

What do you have to do?

Find Video Call Santa on the appstore or Google play store and download it.

Then you put in the date and time you’d like a video call and wait for the phone to ring. You can set it to happen instantly.

A photo of Santa comes on your screen and you hit the green button to reply.

Then Santa appears with a “ho, ho, ho” and asks the child their name. A small box appears at the bottom right of the screen showing a video of the child’s reaction in real time.

Santa asks if they’ve been naughty or nice, followed by what they’d like for Christmas.

Is it any good?

Well, it’s free and very easy to use.

The fact he can call at a time that suits you works well too.

Santa has an American accent so it’s not entirely authentic to Lapland.

And the video is on a loop, so he says the same thing every time, regardless of what the child answers.

This isn’t ideal if they say they’ve been naughty as he replies with “fantastic!”

It does seem to wait for an answer though which makes it feel realistic.

The video recording is protected by a pre-set passcode so parents can watch it again to find out which presents their children would like for Christmas.

The idea is that kids can have the chat with Santa on their own although it’s debatable as to whether you should allow that.

The biggest downside is if they want to do it again (which they obviously will) as some of the cannier kids might twig that Santa is saying exactly the same thing, and that could really spoil the magic of Christmas.
