With Home and Away off screens for a little over a week now, viewers have been wondering when the hit Australian soap opera will return to Channel 5.

Known for helping to launch the careers of stars like Hollywood actor Chris Hemsworth, Home and Away follows the ups and downs in the lives of the residents of Summer Bay, a fictional coastal town in Australia.

After last week’s dramatic cliffhanger, the next season of episodes will feature an exciting new arrival, the return of a familiar face and answers to some of the Bay’s biggest mysteries.

So when is Home and Away back on and why is it not showing on Channel 5 this month? Here’s everything you need to know.

When is Home and Away back on?

Home and Away will return to the UK for 2022 on Monday, January 3.

If you can’t wait that long, 5STAR first look viewers will be able to watch the same episode at the earlier time of 6.30pm on Friday, December 31.

From then on, you can catch episodes of Home and Away on weekdays at 1.15pm on Channel 5.

The long-running Aussie soap aired in the evenings until last month, however, a Channel 5 scheduling shake-up bumped it into the daytime.

Luckily, the option to watch Home and Away at 6pm remains, with repeat screenings at this time available via free-to-air digital channel 5STAR.

Those who enjoy being one step ahead can watch 5STAR’s first-look screenings, which air at 6.30pm and are one episode ahead of the main Channel 5 broadcast.

Why is Home and Away not on?

Channel 5 confirmed last month that Home and Away would once again be taking its six-week annual break for Christmas.

The final episode of this year’s season aired on Monday, November 22 (Friday, November 19 for 5STAR viewers).

Home and Away 2022 spoilers

The 2021 season of Home and Away ended with a rather dramatic cliffhanger, as Tane Parata’s secret stalker carried out a deadly attack at local restaurant Salt.

As for what viewers can expect from the new series, it looks like there’s a familiar face set to return to Summer Bay as Salvatore Coco returns to his role as Dimitri Poulos, the oldest of the Poulos siblings who was last seen on the show in 2005.

The new season will also deal with the fallout of Chloe, Mia and Matthew’s dramatic showdown as well as the result of Ryder and Theo’s increasingly dangerous dares, which saw Ryder left buried in a box in the ground.

Luke Van Os, cousin of Avengers actor and former Home and Away star Chris Hemsworth, will also join the Home and Away cast as Xander, a mysterious individual who arrives in the Bay searching for answers.
