Drone footage captures flames tearing through iconic Littlewoods building

This dramatic camera footage showcases the ferocity of the blaze that ripped through the famous Littlewoods building last night.

The images, captured from a drone above the Edge Lane landmark, show how flames had taken hold of a large section of the building, severely damaging the property.

The incident prompted a significant response from the emergency services with seven fire crews scrambled to the scene and police closing off busy Edge Lane in both directions.

Fire service give the latest update on Littlewoods Building blaze

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to the fire just before 8pm on Sunday.

Firefighters moved hoardings from the building's windows and entered the site as part of the efforts to bring the flames under control.

Officials are hopeful the structural integrity of the building remains intact, with reports this morning suggesting the section of site set to be developed into a TV and film studio was not damaged by the fire.

Firefighters are still working at the location this morning. The fire appears to have been brought under control and efforts are now focused on tackling what remains of the blaze inside the building.

The Liverpool-bound carriageway of Edge Lane is now open to traffic.
