A musician set for a summer of festivals was left devastated after thieves stole the drum kit he spent 25 years playing.

Mark Davis had loaded his gear into a van outside his Liverpool home ahead of a gig last weekend.

But the vehicle was unloaded by crooks who made off with the unique kit while he was repairing a foot stand indoors.

Mark, who plays in a funk band called Supergiant, was due to play at Flyby Fest over the weekend so had to borrow a friend's kit.

His summer of performances includes a set at well-known Kendal Calling, but his plans have been hit by the theft.

The 46-year-old, from Mossley Hill , said: "They took absolutely everything out. It was all in cases and they must have had a van because there was a lot of gear to shift. They must have been watching me.

"I have owned it for 25 years and it is my pride and joy. Theft is always awful but it is also my livelihood and it is very sentimental to me.

"I know there's a lot of lovely people out there but there are some scumbags and rats out there."

The drum kit was a Ludwig-made black diamond pearl kit, from the early 1970s.

The dad-of-three's stolen equipment included a snare drum, stands and symbols.

It was taken from Silverbeech Avenue on Friday morning and Mark is urging for anyone with details to contact police.

Merseyside Police confirmed officers received a report on July 19 that a Ludwig drum kit had been stolen from a Ford Transit van parked on Silverbeech Avenue. The theft is thought to have been between 10am and 11.30am that day.
