Reign in Spain: "Spanish people have compartementalized what Juan Carlos has meant for the country"
As the former Spanish king returns home from a self-imposed two-year exile, FRANCE 24 is joined by Dr. Carlos Conde Solares, Senior Lecturer in Hispanic Studies at Northumbria University. "As a king, I think it's very clear that there are several stages to his very long tenure, his very long reign," explains Dr. Solares. "One, the most important, the one that is going to be historically remembered, of course, is his role during the exemplary transition to democracy, and the role that he played during those early years: the 1970's and the 1980's."
