Russian spies orchestrated a cyber attack on the global chemical weapons watchdog, the Dutch defence minister said today.

The Dutch defence minister said that after the Netherlands disrupted the Russian hacking attack in April it expelled four Russian intelligence officers.

The plot, by agents from Russia's GRU intelligence network, targeted the OPCW, the chemical weapons watchdog which played a role in investigating the Novichok attack on UK soil in Salisbury.

Earlier Jeremy Hunt accused Russia of being behind a string of global cyber attacks. The Russian foreign ministry said Britain had a "vivid imagination' in response adding that the claims were part of a "diabolical cocktail" of allegations made against them.
