Man trapped under bin wagon near Marks and Spencer in Prestwich taken to hospital

Emergency services rescued a man trapped under a bin wagon in Prestwich.

Police, the ambulance service and firefighters were scrambled to Bury New Road, near to M&S Simply Food, following the collision just after 10am.

A spokesman for the fire service said the man is 'conscious and breathing', and it is not known how seriously injured he is.

Firefighters and paramedics worked to release the man.

The air ambulance is also at the scene.

Road closures are in place there are reports of long delays in the Bury area.

A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "We were called at 10.04am to Bury New Road.

"Two engines from Whitefield and Broughton, and the technical response unit from Ashton, attended a road traffic collision involving a bin wagon and a man.

"The casualty is trapped at the rear of the bin wagon. Crews are working with the North West Ambulance Service to safely remove the casualty."

A spokeswoman for NWAS said: "We were called at 9.59am we are still at the scene.

"The air ambulance, a rapid response vehicle and advanced technician attended. Somebody is trapped under a lorry."

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said the man was released at 11.40am and taken to hospital.
